Outer Space Art Camp: Day 2

Today's Outer Space art camp included pop-out rockets blasting off to Mars...

Julia also taught our campers about the different planets and how to use a crayon resist technique to paint the solar system.

Tomorrow will be our last day of Outer Space camp... and, the last day of camp for the summer!

Outer Space Art Camp: Day 1

Our art instructor, Julia, taught our campers watercoloring techniques as we made constellation paintings using warm and cool colors for backgrounds.

We also worked on a planetary 3D mobile using a crayon resist technique.

Looking forward to another fun Outer Space camp this morning!

Camping Art Mini-Camp Day 3

Our final day of our Camping themed art camp!  In addition to painting rocks, we made some kindness rocks.  We then ventured out into Cumberland Park and hid them for people to find.  We hope it makes someone's day and brings a smile to their face when they discover one of these rocks!

While we were outdoors, we found something in nature that we wanted to paint:  a turtle, a leaf, a "green bean plant" (Ha, we didn't know what else to call it!).  We learned how to use oil pastels and watercolors together to create our paintings.

Our final project of this Camping themed art camp was our pinecone sculptures... an instant favorite.  First, we learned how to mix colors using the 3 primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) along with black or white to create the colors we wanted.  We then used those colors to add color to our pinecones.  We twisted some wire to the top and strung some beads, added a loop at the top and some washi tape.  Now, where to hang them?

It was a fantastic end to our camp!  Hope to see you at our next one!

Our final art mini-camp of the summer will be July 30 - Aug. 1st.  It will be an OUTER SPACE theme and it's gonna be out of this world.  REGISTER now to get your kids signed up... space is limited.

Camping Art Mini-Camp Day 2

Today we had a busy morning at camp!  Our first project was a directed drawing of a camping scene with a 3D tent.  Julia demonstrated with step-by-step directions for each part of the project, teaching drawing, coloring, and shading techniques as she went.

Here are some samples of our campers drawings!  They turned out amazing!

Next up, we spent some time exploring children's literature about camping.  Debbie is a 1st grade teacher at Brooks School Elementary so, naturally, books are always a part of every day at camp!

Next up, we brought nature into our camp projects by using leaves to make imprints onto cardboard panels.  First we painted our cardboard with acrylic paints.

Next we painted onto our leaves...

and used them to make imprints on our panels.  Julia showed campers how to add white highlights.

We then bound our panels together to make a book.

Last, but not least, at every class we have been designing and painting rocks.  Today we looked at the book Only One You (shown above) for inspiration for these fish.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's art adventures at our Camping themed art camp.

P.S.  We have one mini-camp still left this summer, July 30 - Aug. 1st before the kids head back to school.  It will be an Outer Space theme and it's gonna be out of this world!  REGISTER here to get your kids signed up!

Camping Art Mini-Camp Day 1

Day 1 of our morning Camping themed mini-camp!  Julia taught our campers how to do a crayon resist technique with a watercolor wash.

Julia demonstrating how to do a crayon resist technique.
Campers made four different crayon resist panels.

Summer camp would not be complete without making a dream catcher.  Students designed them using coordinating colors.

Tomorrow will be another fun day at camp!
